There was only one thing on Michael Mountain’s mind as he trudged through the apocalyptic, waterlogged streets of New Orleans: to rescue as many animal as possible. Most of the residents had already fled the devasted city, but their pets – many lost or left behind in the confusion and panic – were clinging to the trees, rooftops and cars, or stranded inside empty houses.
